UK Bus Awards 2009 Highly Commended

WELCOME to the home of Carbon Stoppers, our innovative campaign which has been highly commended in the 2009 national UK Bus Awards.

To date £4,550 has been raised by Carbon Stoppers, thought to be the first initiative of its kind in the UK bus industry.

Each week we have a ‘Thank You Thursday’ when every trip taken on the day contributes to a Community Chest.

We’ve pledged a minimum donation of £50 per week with the money available to schools, community groups and good causes. Readers of the Daily Echo, Bournemouth, are invited to nominate a worthy cause or charity.

The £4,550 raised so far has gone to the following good causes: Cherry Tree Nursery, Bournemouth Talking Newspaper, Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance, Life Education Wessex, Hospital Radio Bedside, Waggy Tails Rescue, Bournemouth People First, Nile 20, Rebound Gym Club, Caring Canines, The Pink Champagne Dragon Boat Team, S.P.R.I.N.G., Bournemouth Food Bank,Help and Care and Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA-UK),Bournemouth Brass Band and Everyman.

Carbon Stoppers is heavily promoted on our buses, used by more than 13m passengers per annum, and on our website at www.bybus.co.uk

And we’ve guaranteed our involvement in the project until at least the end of this year.

The aims of Carbon Stoppers are simple:

  • Reduce congestion
  • Improve the environment
  • Benefit the people of Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch.

Editor Neal Butterworth said: “We are very pleased to be involved in this worthwhile initiative.

“The campaign tries to encourage people to use the buses – and the more people use the buses the more money this fund gets.

“We are delighted to be part of the campaign and hope we can raise as much money as possible for local good causes.”
