Jessica Davies, Manageress at the nursery in Northbourne, received a £200 cheque from Jenni Wilkinson, Transdev Yellow Buses’ Head of Marketing.

Cherry Tree is run by the Sheltered Work Opportunities Project, a registered charity. It aims to use the therapeutic nature of horticulture to restore mental well-being and has 140 volunteers. Jessica said that the cash would go towards an “extra special Christmas party’ for helpers at the nursery.

“We’re incredibly honoured that Echo readers should choose us as the first people to receive a donation from this wonderful scheme,” she added.

Carbon Stoppers is a way of rewarding bus travellers by putting something back into the community. It was launched jointly by TYB and the Daily Echo, Bournemouth, in September, 2008.

Each week TYB has a ‘Thank You Thursday’ when every trip taken on the day contributes to a Community Chest.

The bus company has pledged a minimum donation of £50 per week with the money available to schools, community groups and good causes. Echo readers are invited to nominate a worthy cause or charity.

Carbon Stoppers is heavily promoted on TYB’s buses, used by more than 12m passengers per annum, and website.

The company has guaranteed its involvement in the project until at least the end of 2009.
