CitizenCard FAQs

What is a Citizencard?

It is a nationally recognised proof of age Photo ID Card scheme, backed by the Government, the Police, Trading Standards, Schools and Retailers.

Why do I need one?

Because if you are aged between 11- 18th birthday - from the 1st January 2008, to purchase a child fare you will need to show a valid CitizenCard. Currently young adults can only travel unaccompanied on a child fare after 22:00 with a valid CitizenCard.

What’s in it for me?

The first thing that happens is you automatically qualify for a concessionary fare right up to your 18th birthday (currently only available until your 14th birthday), and you will be able to enjoy concessionary fares after January 1st 2008. We will be making offers on our website to CitizenCard holders - keep checking www.bybus.co.uk

How much will it cost me?

A CitizenCard is free to apply for from your school for the first age range.
CitizenCard may make a charge for any future cards.

The age ranges that Citizencard offer are:

  • Under 16
  • 16/17 years
  • Over 18 years

When a child is coming up to her/his 16th birthday or 18th birthday they will need to apply for an upgrade card from Citizencard.

How do I get one?

We have approached all the schools in our operating area, so ask your teacher for a form, or you can apply directly to CitizenCard at CitizenCard, Suite 235, The Citadel Business Centre, Bath Road, Chippenham, SN15 2AB, or telephone 0871 200 2023.

Alternatively email us with your address and we will send you a form for you to complete and have verified with your school or college.

When will I need one?

You should apply now, so that not only are you ready for the changes on January 1st 2008, but also, you can get child fares straight away, particularly if you are 15 or over, look older than your years or have to travel out of school uniform.

If you have any questions regarding the CitizenCard please email us.
