Going green helps Transdev Yellow Buses land gold

A COMPANY-WIDE focus on ‘green’ initiatives has helped Transdev Yellow Buses (TYB) secure a top award.

The company won the ‘Sustainable Tourism’ category at the 2008 Bournemouth Tourism Awards.

Judges praised TYB’s environmental efforts across a number of areas including recycling, driver training and encouraging the use of public transport.

Derek Lott, TYB’s Managing Director, described the award as “a feather in TYB’s cap.”

He added: “Our comprehensive network offers a real alternative to the car for residents and visitors alike. I’m delighted this has been recognised by the judges.”

More than 300 members of the business and civic community attended this year’s Bournemouth Tourism Awards, described as the biggest night of the year for the resort’s tourism industry.

Bournemouth Tourism award Designer Wayne Hemingway was guest of honour at the ceremony which had 19 award categories and was held at the Opera House in Boscombe.

TYB was also highly commended in the ‘Transport Initiative of the Year’ category.
