YELLOW Buses (YB) is to further expand its network with a new service linking Poole, Penn Hill, Bournemouth and Castlepoint.
The company will launch route 20 on Tuesday May 4 after successfully winning a tender from the Borough of Poole and Bournemouth Borough Council.
The new route is a combination of the existing 53 Poole to Bournemouth service, operated two hourly by Wilts & Dorset, and the existing 42 service, operated hourly by Shamrock Buses, which runs between Castlepoint and Westbourne.
YB’s route 20 will run hourly Monday to Saturday from approximately 9am to 5pm.
It will serve Poole, Lilliput, Penn Hill, Westbourne, Bournemouth, Glenferness Avenue, Winton, Ripon Road and Castlepoint.
Marc West, YB’s Planning & Schedules Manager, said: “We’re delighted to secure this tender from Bournemouth Borough Council and the Borough of Poole.
“The new route 20 will offer a frequent and reliable service which we feel sure will be popular with bus users in the areas served.”
The announcement of route 20 comes just two weeks after Yellow Buses revealed it is to launch a new hourly weekday service linking East Dorset and Bournemouth from April.
Route 29 will run hourly Monday to Saturday from 7am to 6pm. It will link Bournemouth town centre and the railway station with Winton, Moordown, Parley, Ferndown and West Moors.
Some of the areas covered have not had a regular direct weekday bus link with Bournemouth for more than two years after another operator withdrew its services.
The areas include West Moors, which is home to 7,000 people, and the Glenmoor Road area in Ferndown.
The new 29 will also serve Ferndown Industrial Estate during morning and afternoon peak times.
