Male cancer campaign receives Carbon Stoppers boost

BIG-HEARTED Yellow Bus passengers have helped raise £250 for the UK’s leading prostate and testicular cancer campaign.

Everyman is the latest good cause to benefit from the innovative Carbon Stoppers scheme, run by Yellow Buses in conjunction with the Daily Echo.

Each year about 10,000 men die of prostate cancer and over 2,000 men are diagnosed with testicular cancer.

Everyman was launched by The Institute of Cancer Research 13 years ago to boost awareness of the cancers as well as raise funds for vital research.

Bus drivers and training staff at Yellow Buses’ Yeomans Way depot joined Head of Marketing Jenni Wilkinson and Jon Galpin, Marketing Assistant, in celebrating the latest Carbon Stoppers donation.

Nicola Ashby, Everyman’s Corporate Account Handler, said: “We’re delighted to have benefited from Carbon Stoppers’ fundraising efforts. This generous gift will help us in the fight against prostate and testicular cancer and we’re very grateful.”

Carbon Stoppers was jointly launched by Yellow Buses – named Shire Operator of the Year at the 2009 UK Bus Awards – and the Daily Echo in 2008. To date, £4,550 has been donated to good causes.

Each week Yellow Buses holds a ‘Thank You Thursday’ when every trip taken on the day contributes to a separately administered Community Chest.

Yellow Buses has pledged a minimum donation of £50 per week to the fund with Echo readers invited to nominate worthy recipients.

June also saw a special ‘Thank You Father’s Day’ event and Echo readers decided a good cause specifically set up to help men – Everyman – should receive the £250 raised during the month.

Apart from Everyman, other Carbon Stopper recipients over the last two years include Bournemouth Talking Newspaper, Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance, Cherry Tree Nursery, Life Education Wessex, Hospital Radio Bedside, Waggy Tails Rescue, Bournemouth People First, Nile 20, Rebound Gym Club, Caring Canines, Pink Champagne Dragon Boat Team, S.P.R.I.N.G, Bournemouth Food Bank, Help & Care, thehub Goes Global, 2 Close Together, PHA-UK and Bournemouth Concert Brass.
