Yellow Buses rescues services threatened with the axe

YELLOW Buses has stepped in to save services which were threatened with the axe.

Currently Bournemouth Borough Council funds evening and Sunday services on the section of route 2b linking the Royal Bournemouth Hospital and Kinson.

Areas served by the route include Castle Lane, Moordown, Ensbury Park,  West Howe and Kinson.

Due to the financial squeeze the council has announced it is to withdraw funding from January 2011. Notices have been posted on affected bus stops.

But, following a review, Yellow Buses has decided to step in and continue operating evening and Sunday services on a commercial basis.

The company is stressing it will be for a trial period of at least three months and that its long-term future will depend on passengers using the service.

Marc West, Yellow Buses’ Planning and Schedules Manager, said: “We have looked at this from a customer perspective and will be doing our utmost to keep the service going on weekday and Sunday evenings.

“However, the true test is whether passengers vote with their feet and use the services. We will keep a close check on numbers and review our involvement in late Spring.

”In the meantime we are approaching local companies and organisations to see whether will partner with us in order to ensure the long-term future of weekday and Sunday evening services.”

Bournemouth Council is continuing to fund the daytime service on Sundays and public holidays.
