YELLOW Buses’ user-friendly journey planner is in line for a top national award next week.
The planner, developed in partnership with Bournemouth-based Base Creative Agency, has been shortlisted for the Innovation category of the 2011 UK Bus Awards.
Accessed through the Yellows’ website – www.bybus.co.uk – the planner was launched in January this year. It aims to make getting from A to B by Yellow Buses (YB) as easy as possible.
Passengers type in their address, postcode or even prominent location together with the destination and receive a personalised bus route.
They don’t need to know specific bus service numbers and the planner is so detailed that it can pinpoint the nearest bus stops to use.
Work started on the planner in early 2010. It was subject to rigorous testing and modification, including extensive input from YB’s drivers, before going live.
Jenni Wilkinson, YB’s Head of Marketing, said: “To be shortlisted for the UK Bus Awards is a tremendous result in itself.
“The journey planner represented a massive step forward in the information we offer our passengers and has proved to be immensely popular.”
Tom Quay, Base’s Digital Director, added: “We’re really pleased to see YB be shortlisted for innovation with their cross-platform journey planner, especially within a category dominated by smart card systems.
“It shows YB’s commitment to continually pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with the resource, technology and data available to them.”
Yellow Buses has also been shortlisted for the Shire Operator of the Year category having won the award for the last two years.
The results of the UK Bus Awards will be announced on November 29 at an awards ceremony at London’s Hilton Hotel.
