Yellows claim UK first for widely praised journey planner

YELLOW Buses (YB) is claiming a UK first for its user-friendly journey planner.

Passengers using the popular online service can now find the actual fare for their journey.

The Yellows believe they are the first bus company in the country to offer such a feature.

Jenni Wilkinson, Head of Marketing, said: “This is all about transparency. We’re offering a quality service and want to be as open as possible about the costs of using it.”

Accessed through the Yellows’ website – – the planner  aims to make getting from A to B by Yellow Buses as easy as possible.

Passengers type in their address, postcode or even prominent location together with the destination and receive a personalised bus route.

They don’t need to know specific bus service numbers and the planner is so detailed that it can pinpoint the nearest bus stops to use as well as the fare.

Jenni said: “We already show the cost of our long, medium and short hop fares but, before this change, you didn’t know which one applied to a particular journey.

“Now we’ve simplified the process and can show the fare and the savings for both child and adult fares.”

The journey planner, developed in partnership with Bournemouth-based Base Creative Agency, was shortlisted in the Innovation category of the 2011 UK Bus Awards.

Launched a year ago, it has been widely praised for being easy to use and simple to understand.
