They are following on from the successful Ladies’ Recruitment Open Day, which was covered on TV and saw a surge of interest.

Indeed, one the women who turned up at the open day has now been offered a full-time position at the company.

Each person who completes the pre-employment course will be guaranteed a job interview with Yellow Buses, or an advice session on career opportunities and job seeking.

One course has already been held and the others – which are completely free – will cover the whole passenger transport industry.

Each is spread over two weeks – typically 30 hours each week – and is being held in conjunction with People 1st Ltd.

Topics covered on the courses include preparing for a job interview, teamwork, interview skills and YB’s famous customer service training.

Background sessions on the bus and coach industry will also be held, and details of careers in those industries will be highlighted.

Yellow Buses employs about 350 staff and has about 30 women driving on its fleet.

Yellow Buses’ Head of Marketing Jenni Wilkinson said: “These courses are being held following a hugely successful open day targeted at ladies.

“A career in the transport industry is not always something women consider, but we would urge them to.

“We have more and more female staff and many passengers like to see a female driver when they board a bus.

“Each course is spread over two weeks and gives an overview of the industry as well as tips and hints about securing a career.

“There will certainly be driving jobs available, and other positions within the company might arise.”

The courses begin on March 11 and March 25.
