A MULTI-MILLION pound appeal to raise funds for new hydrotherapy facilities for disabled children is the latest to receive a donation from Carbon Stoppers.
The Sparkle Appeal was launched in 2010 with the aim of raising £5 million to provide a new hydrotherapy pool and therapy centre at Victoria Education Centre (VEC) in Poole.
More than half the target amount has been raised and the pool is now built and in action.
VEC specialises in providing education, therapy and care for young people from three years of age to adults with physical disabilities, predominately cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy. Some of the children’s difficulties are due to severe illness, accidents, tumours and strokes.
The Senior Section of Ferndown Forest Golf Club adopted the Sparkle Appeal as the Captain’s annual charity and approached Carbon Stoppers for a donation.
Peter Jennings, who is Chairman of Governors at VEC and also a member of Ferndown Forest Golf Club, was presented with a £220 cheque by Sally Spicer of Yellow Buses.
He said: “We’re very pleased to receive this money and thank Yellow Buses and the Daily Echo for choosing us.”
Carbon Stoppers was launched by Yellow Buses and the Daily Echo five years ago.
Each week Yellow Buses holds a ‘Thank You Thursday’ when every trip taken by passengers on the day contributes to a separately administered Community Chest.
The bus company has pledged a minimum donation of £50 per week to the Carbon Stoppers fund with Daily Echo readers invited to nominate worthy recipients.
Since Carbon Stoppers was launched in 2008 a total of £12,660 has been presented to 51 charities and good causes.
